About CMA

CMA - Successful business with food and agricultural products
History and objectives
CMA aims to establish business contacts between German exporters and foreign importing companies. CMA Centrale Marketing-Gesellschaft der deutschen Agrarwirtschaft mbH (Central Marketing Organization of German Agricultural Industries) was founded in 1969 as one of two implementation companies of the Absatzfonds (Sales Promotion Fund of the German Farming, Forestry and Food Industries), set up by the Sales Promotion Fund Act.

A compact range of services to foreign importers
The services provided by CMA are many and varied - they include CMA’s multilingual purchasing guide and the provision of comprehensive information. Jointly with its partners CMA develops and implements marketspecific promotion activities for all agricultural raw materials and processed foods. These campaigns employ many tools in the classic marketing mix, for example profile enhancing sales promotion campaigns in the world’s leading retail chains and CMA’s presence at more than 50 major foreign trade fairs a year as well as numerous business conferences and similar economic events.

Business to business contacts
The CMA export department is able to establish potential business contacts between exports and foreign importing companies. Importers and buyers are welcome to use the facilities and services of the CMA Export Service Centers at trade fairs and exhibitions on the main markets in the world.

Sales promotions
In order to launch new products or move into new market segments or in order to increase existing sales CMA carries out specific product or sales promotions in almost all the countries in the world.

CMA personnel at head office and its several offices abroad provide support to foreign importers. They have been familiar with the finer points of the trade business for years, some of them for decades, and they are available to advise on importing all year round.

CMA and its official bodies
More then 40 umbrella organisations representing the food and agricultural industry and the retail and processing sectors are shareholders in CMA. These cover the entire food chain from the farm to the plate. CMA is a private limited company. Its articles of association prohibit it from conducting transactions of its own involving commodities.
CMA's official bodies are:

  • the shareholder board

  • the supervisory board

  • the board of management

These are advised by the coordinating advisory council and 17 committees (14 product, 3 specialist), which ensure that in all its activities CMA benefits from the experience and expertise of the entire food and agricultural industry.

CMA is mainly financed by German agriculture through the Sales Promotion Fund.
